Conference on Kitchen Garden for Nutritional Security

            ICAR SCAD Krishi Vigyan Kendra and Pasumai Vikatan has  jointly organized one day conference on “Kitchen Garden for Nutritional Security” at the premises of Francis Xavier engineering College, Tirunelveli. The special delegates were Mrs. VijilaSathyanath, Member of Parliament (Rajya Sabha), Mrs. Shilpa Prabhakar Sathish I.A.S. District Collector, Tirunelveli and Mrs. Shabena DDM, NABARD, Tirunelveli. The intention of the conference is to address the issues like Malnourishment among children, Anemic women, Improper food habits and Production of chemicals free vegetables and fruits. 

            Technical lecture on establishing Kitchen Garden and its maintenance were explained by Mr. VelMurugan, SMS (Horticulture) from KVK. Then Mr. Poochi. Selvam explained about the organic pest management measures in Kitchen Garden along with preparation of organic insect repellants. Video clips about establishing Kitchen garden were shown to participants.

            In addition to this, Exhibition also organized relevant to the theme of Kitchen Garden. Kitchen Garden inputs like tools, Vegetable seeds, Fruit seedlings, Organic pesticides were displayed in the stalls. Around 1000 participants including Farmers, SHG members, House wives, Garden enthusiasts and Students were participated in this conference.
